Richard L. Lindstrom
Dr. Lindstrom is the founder and attending surgeon at Minnesota Eye Consultants, Adjunct Clinic Professor Emeritus at the University of Minnesota Department of Ophthalmology, and visiting professor at the UC Irvine Gavin Herbert Eye Institute. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist and internationally recognized leader in corneal, cataract, refractive, glaucoma and laser surgery. He has been at the forefront of ophthalmology's evolutionary changes throughout his career, as a recognized researcher, teacher, inventor, writer, lecturer and highly acclaimed physician and surgeon.
After graduating Magna Cum Laude from the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Lindstrom completed his doctorate degree in medicine in 1972. He conducted research, residency and fellowship training in cornea at the University of Minnesota and affiliated hospitals and extended his anterior segment surgery fellowship training at Mary Shiels Hospital in Dallas followed by a Heed Fellowship in Glaucoma at University Hospital in Salt Lake City. After two years of private practice in Dallas, TX. In 1980 Dr. Lindstrom returned to the University of Minnesota, where he spent ten years on the faculty of the Department of Ophthalmology, the last two as a full professor and the Harold G. Scheie Research Chair. He continues as Adjunct Clinical Professor Emeritus, and a Trustee for the University of Minnesota Foundation. He entered private practice in 1989 and has helped lead the growth and expansion of Minnesota Eye Consultants having served as managing partner for 15 years. He is Chief Medical Editor of the USA and International editions of Ocular Surgery News, which reaches 82,000 ophthalmologists worldwide.
Dr. Lindstrom served as President (2007-2008) of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery; he later served as chair of the ASCRS Foundation for 6 years and continues to serve on the ASCRS Executive Committee and its Foundation. He has also served as the President of the International Society of Refractive Surgery of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, The International Intraocular Implant Club, and the International Refractive Surgery Club.
He has served for 25 years Chairman and CEO of Lindstrom Cleaning and Construction, a three-generation family business. He has endowed funds supporting the University Of Minnesota Department Of Ophthalmology, the Eye Bank Association of America, and the University of Minnesota Tennis Team.
Dr. Lindstrom has been awarded over 40 patents in ophthalmology and has developed a number of corneal preservation solutions, intraocular lenses, drugs, devices, and instruments that are used in clinical practices globally. He serves on the Board of Directors of Lindstrom Restoration, Minnesota Eye Consultants, TearLab, Ocular Therapeutix, Imprimis, Refractec, AcuFocus, Lentechs, Lensar, CorneaGen, Surface, Combangio, LaGrande, MDBackline, ForSight#6, IICayr, Equinox, Visionary Ventures, and Flying L Ventures. Prior Boards of acquired companies include: Eyeonics, Advanced Vision Science, Midwest Surgical Services, Laserboyz, Citation Ventures, LVCI Vision, Vision Correction, TLC Vision, Sightpath, Onpoint Medical Diagnostics, Vision Twenty-One, Occulogix, IanTech and Wavetec. Not for profit Board service includes: Trustee, University of Minnesota Foundation, InnerCity Tennis, the ASCRS Executive committee and its Foundation Board, and The International Society of Refractive Surgery of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
A frequent lecturer throughout the world on cornea, cataract, glaucoma, laser, and refractive surgery, he has presented over 40 named lectures and keynote speeches before professional societies in the U.S. and abroad, more recently giving the Kelman Lecture at the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Castroviejo Lecture at the Cornea Society, The Barraquer Lecture at ISRS, The Worst Medal Lecture at IIIC, and the Binkhorst and innovator lectures at ASCRS. Internationally, he has delivered, amongst others, The Blumenthal Memorial lecture in Jerusalem, Israel, the Benedetto Strampelli SOI Medal Lecture in Rome, Italy, and the Albrecht von Garefe-Vorlesung Innovator’s Lecture in Nurenberg, Germany.
Dr. Lindstrom serves on a number of journal editorial boards, including JCRS and JRS. He is the Honorary Editor-in-Chief of the U.S./Chinese Journal of Ophthalmology. He has co-edited seven books, published over 350 peer reviewed journal articles and 60 book chapters. His professional affiliations are extensive.
He is the recipient of numerous awards for distinguished service by national and international ophthalmology associations, including the LANS, Barraquer and the first lifetime achievement award from the International Society of Refractive Surgery in October 1995 and also was honoured with A SECOND lifetime achievement award in October 2002, the Binkhorst and Kelman Lecture Award from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Bausch and Lomb Lifetime Achievement Award, April 2005, and the Paton Award and NACT Award from the Eye Bank Association of America.
Dr. Lindstrom lives in Minneapolis on the shores of Lake Minnetonka with his wife Jaci and has two children and 5 grandchildren.
Emilio Campos
Nato a Trieste, si è laureato in Medicina e Chirurgia a Modena e si è specializzato in Oculistica presso l’Università di Roma la Sapienza. Ha effettuato un soggiorno di studio di un anno a Tübingen e di complessivi tre anni a Gainesville e New Orleans, come Post-Doctoral Research Fellow prima e Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology poi. Ha avuto come Maestri i Professori Bietti e Bagolini in Italia; Aulhorn e Harms a Tübingen, Burian e Enoch negli USA. E’ stato assistente nelle Cliniche Oculistiche delle Università di Padova e Modena, professore associato a Modena e Bologna ed è stato professore ordinario di Malattie dell’Apparato Visivo nell’Università di Bologna, direttore della scuola di specializzazione in oftalmologia e direttore dell’UO di Oftalmologia del Policlinico S. Orsola-Malpighi fino al dicembre 2018.
E’ autore di oltre 600 pubblicazioni nell’ambito dello strabismo, ambliopia, alterazioni della motilità oculare, neuro-oftalmologia, perimetria sperimentale, elettrofisiologia oculare, glaucoma, superficie oculare. Ha scritto svariati libri e in particolare è coautore di Gunter von Noorden del più rinomato testo sullo strabismo a livello mondiale. Ha appena pubblicato, assieme a Silvia Mariani, “Strabismo – Manuale di Diagnosi e Terapia”. E’ un’autorità riconosciuta a livello internazionale nell’ambito della diagnosi e chirurgia dello strabismo e l’ambliopia. Ha recentemente depositato un brevetto per un collirio a base di sangue cordonale efficace nelle degenerazioni retiniche.
E’ stato Segretario dell’European Strabismological Association, Presidente dell’Intenational Strabismological Association, Board Member dell’International Council of Ophthalmology. Ha fondato l’Associazione Italiana Strabismo di cui è stato il primo Presidente; è Consigliere della Società Oftalmologica Italiana. E’ uno degli ottanta componenti dell’Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis.
E’ stato per dodici anni Presidente della Fondazione del Museo Ebraico di Bologna. E’ componente del Consiglio di Amministrazione dell’Istituto dell’Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani e del Collegio di Indirizzo della Fondazione della Cassa di Risparmio di Bologna.
Stefano Miglior
Nato a Parma il 6 marzo 1958. Laureato in Medicina e Chirurgia nel 1982 presso l’Universita’ di Milano, specializzato in Oftalmologia nel 1986 presso la stessa Universita’. Ha conseguito il Dottorato di Ricerca in Scienze Oftalmologiche nel 1991 presso l’Universita’ di Torino. Aiuto Ospedaliero, poi Dirigente di I° Livello presso la Clinica Oculistica dell’Ospedale San Paolo dell’Universita’ di Milano dal 1992 al 2001. Dirigente di II° Livello della Clinica Oculistica presso il Policlinico di Monza, Universita’ Milano Bicocca dal 2003 ad oggi. E’ stato Professore Associato di Oftalmologia dal 1992 al 2000 presso l’Universita’ di Milano, ed e’ Professore Ordinario di Oftalmologia dal 2000 ad oggi presso l’Universita’ Bicocca di Milano.
Ha svolto un’attivissima attivita’ di ricerca sia di base che clinica. Nel biennio 1985-86 e’ stato Research Fellow al Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary, Howe Laboratory of Ophthalmology, Harvard Medical School di Boston (USA). In tale sede ha svolto ricerche di base sulla biochimica del cristallino e del corpo vitreo. Dal 1996 al 2007 e’ stato ideatore e Principal Investigator dello studio clinico multicentrico randomizzato “European Glaucoma Prevention Study”, finanziato dalla Comunita’ Europea nell’ambito del Programma BIOMED 2 e cofinanziato dalla Merck (USA). Per numero di pazienti reclutati e’ il secondo studio piu’ esteso mai eseguito e ampiamente pubblicato sul Glaucoma. E’ stato Project Partner in tre studi biennali finanziati dal National Eye Institute del National Institute of Health (NIH) (USA) svolti tra il 2004 ed il 2011 in collaborazione coi gruppi dell’Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study (OHTS) della Washington University di St Louis e della University of South California di San Diego: “EGPS/OHTS Collaborative Analysis”.
Da sempre si e’ clinicamente e chirurgicamente occupato di glaucoma e delle patologie del segmento anteriore dell’occhio sotto la guida del suo Maestro, il Prof. Nicola Orzalesi che e’ stato suo Direttore presso la Clinica Oculistica dell’Ospedale San Paolo di Milano.
E’ noto a livello mondiale per quanto riguarda la sua attivita’ scientifica e professionale nell’ambito del glaucoma. Ha fatto parte in passato del Consiglio Direttivo dell’Associazione Italiana per lo Studio del Glaucoma (AISG) ed e’ Presidente dell’AISG dal 2016 ad oggi. E’ membro del Consiglio Direttivo della Societa’ Oftalmologica Italiana (SOI) dal 2009 ad oggi. E’ stato Socio Fondatore e Segretario della Societa’ degli Oftalmologi Universitari (SOU) dalla sua fondazione fino al 2008. Nella sua carriera ha svolto attivita’ di insegnamento clinico e chirurgico con numerosi allievi. Ha pubblicato piu’ di 130 articoli originali su riviste Internazionali ed Italiane, con un’esposizione editoriale di altissimo livello su riviste soprattutto americane.
E’ Editor del libro per la Scuola di Medicina “Malattie dell’Apparato Visivo” i cui coautori sono i Prof Avitabile, Bonini, Campos e Mastropasqua. E’ coautore di numerosi altri libri internazionali ed italiani soprattutto nell’ambito del glaucoma. Ha sempre svolto attivita’ di Reviewer delle piu’ importanti Riviste mondiali ed in tale ambito e’ stato insignito nel 2007 del “Secretariat Award dell’American Academy of Ophthalmology” come Migliore Reviewer per la rivista Ophthalmology per quell’anno. E’ relatore su invito in numerosissimi Congressi Internazionali ed Italiani, nonche’ conferenziere presso diverse Universita’ Italiane. E’ stato Commissario Eletto in numerosi Concorsi Universitari per Ricercatore, Professore Associato e Professore Ordinario, nonche’ Commissario Sorteggiato nella prima tornata di Idoneita’ Nazionale a Professore Ordinario ed Associato del MIUR.
Ha ricevuto la Medaglia d’Oro Maestri dell’Oftalmologia Italiana della Società Oftalmologica Italiana nel 2018.
E’ profondamente amante della natura, della musica e dello sport. Pratica regolarmente tennis, sci e tutte le attivita’ marine con particolare dedizione al diporto nautico ed alla pesca.

David F. Chang
David F. Chang, MD is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Medical School. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of California, San Francisco where he is now a clinical professor. Having chaired the ASCRS Cataract Clinical Committee, Dr. Chang has been on the ASCRS Board and Executive Committee since 2009 and served as the 2012-2013 president. He is a past chair of the AAO Cataract Preferred Practice Pattern Panel and the AAO Annual Meeting Program Committee. In addition to the Lifetime AAO Achievement award, Dr. Chang is a 6-time AAO Secretariat Award recipient. He currently co-chairs the ASCRS Foundation and is the recipient of the 2019 AAO Humanitarian Service Award, and the 2020 Aravind Venkataswamy Award.
